You'll never be a bother.

[She reassures him before slipping off the bed again. As Kate goes downstairs to get his glass, Lucky heads upstairs and joins him, curling next to Alfred and resting his head on his legs.

Kate returns, handing him the glass.]

Do you need another blanket or pillow? Painkillers? Privacy now that someone else stole my spot?

[Her words touch him and when Lucky jumps up onto the bed he strokes his head and smiles.]

She's really quite sweet, isn't she?

[Lucky agrees of course, wagging his tail a little.]

No, I should be fine with just the water.

Okay, you wanna watch some TV until we pass out or do you need to rest real bad?

[He probably does. After all, he's been shot and is clearly a little dizzy.

Climbing on the bed again, this time Kate gets under the covers.]

A little bit of telly sounds good to me.

[It will help take his mind off how weak he feels.]

Good. It really helps me sleep too.

[reaching over at her night stand, Kate grabs the remote and turns the TV on.

She soon settles, finding a fun and classic action film. Kate scoots closer then, almost cuddling him as she rests her head on his shoulder again.]

[It's been a while since he's shared a bed with someone he wasn't sleeping with and in a way it's almost more intimate than if they were naked and fucking, having her cuddle up against him like they're an old married couple watching TV before bed. It reminds him of his own parents and of what could have been if Esme had lived and before he can stop himself he leans his head against hers as they watch the film. His heart beating hard in his chest as a lump forms in his throat.]

[Kate's quite relaxed. Confident that whatever Alfred wants, she is not part of it. Not in the way she had hoped. And so she soon scoots even closer, wrapping an arm around his chest and laughing quietly at some of the ridiculous scenes on the screen.]

We should do it.

[It's hard to resist her warmth so when she snuggles even closer he allows it, slouching down a little further and enjoying her comforting weight on his chest.]

Hrm? Do what?

Take the day off tomorrow. Spend it like this.

[It would be true bliss. Just resting together, watching things, letting Alfred rest and recover. Hanging together.

Before she knows it, she's getting so comfortable against his that she finds herself nuzzling his chest.]

Oh, I thought you meant we should hang off the back of a truck with flame throwers....

[He muses, nodding towards the film which is turning out to be very ridiculous.]

You have a lot planned for tomorrow?

[Kate suddenly props herself up with her elbow.]

I was about to say that, but I thought you wouldn't agree! I'm so ordering a flame thrower tomorrow! [She jokes before settling back down against his side, now more obviously pressing up against him.]

Yeah. But what's the point of being the boss if you can't cancel stuff, right?

[He winces slightly when her elbow digs into his chest but then sighs in relief when she lays back down.]

I suppose that's a good point, and you haven't really taken a day off since you've been here have you?

[Plus it would be nice to have someone to talk to tomorrow while he heals up.]

See? [Again, not noticing, she smacks his chest in her excitement.] That's exactly what I mean. Besides, I shouldn't really leave you on your own. What if you need another glass of water?

Ah! Steady on! [He exclaims as he flinches.] You forgetting that I got shot tonight??

[Kate's jaw instantly drops and she covers her mouth with her hand, reaching out but not knowing how to touch him or if she should.]

Shit, I'm so, so sorry, Alfred! Are you okay? Please tell me you're okay!

I'm fine Kate, just maybe don't smack me around yeah?

Sorry. [She smiles, sounding more calm but still truly apologetic. Again, Kate settles down by his side, now properlu cuddling Alfred.] That came out without thinking.

But, hey! You're a real tough guy. And now you have even more reasons to take the day off tomorrow and spend it with me.

If that's how you're going to treat me, maybe I should think twice about doing so....

[He's teasing of course.]

Hey, it was one slip!!

[She holds her finger up.]

Besides, I'm pretty sure I've been treating you pretty nice all things considered.

So far you have but who knows what's going to happen when you fall asleep. Am I going to find your elbow in my ear or your knee pressed into my back?

[She arches a brow.]

I don't know about that, but now I'm tempted to knee your balls while I'm awake.

For what? Asking if you wiggle around in your sleep as much as you do when you're awake?

[Kate sucks her lips in, clearly considering her retort.

Instead, she seems to get even more comfortable against him, her arm looped around Alfred's waist.]

For being a dick about it.

Oh so asking about one's safety is now considering being a dick is it? [He asks and then yawns, sinking lower into the bed.]
