Well if it makes you feel better sometimes my life is on a similar level of weird, I don't associate with vigilantes but I have dealt with shadowy political parties and Satanists before.
[Karen's eyebrows arch, and she repeats incredulously,] Satanists?
[There's a beat, and then she lets out another quick laugh.] Sounds like we could give each other some serious competition in a 'who's had a weirder week' contest.
[Karen smiles at the way he joins her in laughter, though his question clearly takes her by surprise. She hasn't really considered it from that angle before. It's been a long time since she's met someone that stands a chance of understanding what her life is like. She'll still worry about getting him hurt with her bullshit, because she can only be who she is, but still. Being able to get it is a nice change of pace.]
You know, it kind of is. I'm glad I met you.
[She watches him for a quiet moment before speaking again.] How about I cook you dinner at the end of the week? Your place or mine.
Oh, it won't be fully healed, but I'll be functional by the end of the week. This thing isn't going to last longer than 24 hours.
[Karen makes a gesture to indicate the sling that's holding her arm in place so she won't move that shoulder around. She is, if nothing else, devastatingly self aware.]
[Karen's face seems to be saying who, me? as he studies her. It's not a very convincing impression of someone that absolutely isn't planning to start cooking early. She still smiles when he agrees to the deal.]
Oh yeah? I mean, I wouldn't be offended by that. I'm a good cook but there's always things that are outside someone's skill set. I still want to know what it is.
[He tilts his head down slightly, raising his brows and looking up into her eyes with his light grey ones. His lips curving slightly into a subtle pout.]

Sounds that way, but it's kind of a relief in a way isn't it?

[He then chuckles and shakes his head.]
Oh no, I don't think your shoulder will be healed by then so I'll cook for you here.

I could compromise and let you help me cook.

All right, deal.

[He says with a little wink.]
It's shepherd's pie.

Beef or lamb?

[A beat.]
You can do the mashed potatoes, though. I hate peeling them.

[Karen gives him a suspicious look.]
Like I could resist a mum's secret recipe. Fine, but if that's what we're doing, then I'm making an apple pie. My mom used to make them for the diner.

[He says with a smile.]
Fair enough, I was always rubbish at baking.

[At all. Honestly, the more she thinks about it, the more she just wants to take the sling off already. Even though she knows it's for the best.]
It's a really good apple pie, too. We'll have a pie night.

Sounds like a pretty perfect night to me.

Me too.

[She studies his expression for a moment, trying not to grin.]
I do kind of want to see you try to pull the look off, though.

No, sorry, it's so good.
[Leaning in, she drops a quick kiss onto his lips.]
You have really lovely eyes. Did you practice that look in the mirror?
no subject
Nah, just a natural born puppy dog I guess.
Woof woof.
