We've got quite a few good slang words where I'm from.
I've never understood why people use apps, it's hard to get to know someone through a screen.

Maybe. Kind of depends on how we are defining a 'date'.

I think of it more as like a pre-first meeting, I guess? Have a couple of conversations and if things seem decent, go ahead and meet up.
I think it can be a pretty broad definition.

It's the American way.
And it can be nice when you're busy. Or if you want to make sure the other person is on the level before you meet up with them.

I've been around posh people and they're not always ladies or gentlemen, I think to be an actual one it's more about respecting others than what fork is used with dinner.

Karen certainly hadn't expected Alfred to invite her out for drinks, but she's nevertheless pleased that he did. He's good company, after all. And despite doing her level best to warn him off with all the various and sundry problems she typically has, he's just been...intriguingly unfazed.

She heads over to Josie's early to finish reviewing information for a case they're working on, and claims one of the high top tables in the back. She sticks out like a sore thumb in the dive of dives, wearing a skirt, blouse, and flats. But she looks comfortable regardless, relaxed even, in a place where she knows the bartender and the locals.

When she feels someone approaching, she glances up, and then smiles genuinely at Alfred, closing the folder on the table. "Hey. Glad you found the place."

It's not exactly something he was planning to do but Karen has been one of the more interesting and intelligent women he's met while being in the states and it would seem a shame not to get to know her better over drinks. And when he arrives at Josie's he also stands out, not because he looks uncomfortable but because his style of clothes are still rather European in comparison to the other patrons. He is dressed in a well fitted dark brown tweed suit with a tight black turtleneck underneath, his shoes are well polished black oxfords.

"I did." He says as he returns the smile and has a seat across from her. "Did I keep you waiting long?"

"No, no, I got here a bit early so I could finish up some case research I'm working on." Karen gives her hand a wave to brush away any concern about lateness, and then tucks the folder back into her oversized handbag. Without these plans, she would have gone back to her apartment and stayed up until 1 AM, doggedly pursuing every single thread. It's entirely likely she'll still end up doing that once they part ways.

"I like the suit, by the way," she adds with a smile. It's a good look for him. Tweed is a distinctly underrated fabric.

"What kind of case?" He doesn't expect her to give him a lot of details but there's no harm in asking, she might feel like sharing tonight. He looks down at his suit and then back into her eyes, giving her a little nod of thanks.

"Oh, thank you. You look nice as well."

"Corruption. I'm just looking into some shell companies right now." It's her bread and butter - the exact kind of investigating that she really excels at and sometimes even gets lost in. There's something immensely satisfying about finding just the right thread to pull to completely unravel something.

"We might both be overdressed for a dive," she answers, sounding entertained by the thought. No one's really paying them any mind regardless, because that's just not the vibe at Josie's. "So, what are you going to brave drinking here tonight?"

"I was probably just going to get a pint but I'm open to suggestions." He says, glancing at the bar to see if they have any specials on.

"You're obviously a regular so what do you usually get?"

"Well, you can't go wrong with cheap beer," Karen answers, smiling as she leans in towards the table, as if conspiring. "I'd suggest we do a pitcher. The price ends up just slightly north of dollar drafts. And if you're in the mood for whiskey or scotch, anything with the label turned out is a fair bet."

Meaning: there are a few bottles with the label turned towards the back. The last time she'd braved one of those, it had been the bottle with an eel in it she and Foggy killed after a terrible day.
